Welcome to the PHCC Foundation Online Scholarship Guidebook and Application

Whether you’re a new or returning student, we welcome you to PHCC and want to thank you for choosing our college for your higher education. We know the financial challenges you may be facing. That’s why the PHCC Foundation has established a scholarship program designed to help you with your college expenses. Some scholarship awards are made solely on the basis of academic performance, while others may consider factors such as financial need, program of study or a variety of other conditions as stipulated by the donor.

We hope you will take a few moments to fill out the online scholarship application. If you have any additional questions regarding PHCC Foundation scholarships or financial aid, please visit phcc.edu/financialaid or contact your campus Financial Aid Office.

We wish you well as you pursue your academic goals. Become a PHCC scholarship recipient – see how you can do this!

PHCC Foundation Scholarships

PHCC Foundation scholarships are made possible through generous contributions from local private businesses, foundations, civic organizations and individuals.

Application Period

Applications are accepted from January through the second Friday in April for priority consideration for the fall term. This deadline does not apply to specific scholarships that may become available during the year.

Application Process

  1. Complete the online scholarship application through the link at the top of this page.
  2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov or www.phcc.edu/financialaid. If you do not complete the FAFSA, you will not be considered for any scholarships with a financial need requirement.

Scholarship Availability and Selection

The individual scholarship donors establish eligibility criteria for each scholarship. Availability and award amounts are subject to change, although most scholarships average $800.00 to $1,000.00 for the academic year. Scholarship recipients are selected by the PHCC Scholarship Committee, a cross-section of PHCC staff and faculty. The decision of the Committee is final.

Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours to be considered for a PHCC Foundation scholarship. Top Ten (10%) and VAL/SAL recipients must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours. Only one PHCC Foundation scholarship will be awarded per student per academic year, unless special circumstances arise.

Award Procedure

The Financial Aid Office will notify scholarship recipients in writing of their award selection status during the summer. The PHCC Foundation will also send a letter to each recipient after the drop/add period, reminding students of the requirement to write a thank you letter to the donor and providing the name of the scholarship and the donor.

Award Acknowledgement

All students receiving a PHCC Foundation scholarship, including Top Ten and Val/Sal recipients, are required to write a thank you letter to the donor. You will receive instruction on how to write and send the thank you letter after you have been notified of an award. Failure to write the thank you letter may jeopardize renewable and future awards. Recipients may also be asked to attend a donor appreciation event or photo session sponsored by PHCC Foundation. In addition, some donors may require the recipient to attend an organizational meeting, unless it conflicts with a scheduled class time.

Scholarship Renewal

Students seeking to renew a scholarship must re-apply by the second Friday in April annually for priority consideration. Renewal is contingent upon meeting the criteria of the scholarship each year. Some scholarships are not guaranteed to be renewed each year while others may have specific renewal criteria. Students who apply for renewal and do not meet the criteria of the previously awarded scholarship may be considered for other awards.

Top Ten (10%) and VAL/SAL Students

Students ranked by their high school to qualify for the Top Ten (10%) scholarship are automatically eligible for an award, but must still complete an application for PHCC Foundation records. Top Ten (10%) and VAL/SAL recipients must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours. Completion of this application is designed to help the College and the Foundation with annual data reporting requirements and in no way affects initial eligibility to receive a Top Ten scholarship. Students should refer to their Top Ten award letter to understand the renewal conditions of the scholarship.
